5 Fusion and Sushi Bar Supports Volunteers in Medicine

Five Fusion Collaborative Charity Dinner Series

Monday, July 25, 2011 | 6pm to benefit Volunteers in Medicine

Executive Chef Joe Kim, Jr.

Chef Joe Kim, Jr. has been part of the 5 Fusion family for just over a year. Joe came to 5 Fusion from
San Francisco, where he was both a Sushi Chef and Line Chef. Joe’s background is one that is fairly unique; he is half Korean and half Irish, with most of his family being born and raised in Japan. This unique combination has created a chef with knowledge of Japanese and Korean traditional cooking techniques, but also a passion to bring those flavors to Americans in a way that can be enjoyed without culture shock.

Joe began working in Japanese restaurants at the age of 14, and by the time he reached 16 he was making sushi in his family’s restaurant in Oakland, CA. He gave up cooking for nearly a decade, while he graduated from OSU with a Business Degree, only to find himself behind a desk. It did not take long for Chef Joe to realize that his true home is in a restaurant! Chef Joe returned to Oregon from what was
supposed to be his new life traveling in Asia, furthering his knowledge as a chef, to be with an ill family member, only to find a new home at 5 Fusion.

Dinner tickets are $100 per person, fully inclusive.

For reservations, please call Volunteers in Medicine at 541-585-9012
